Advancing Inclusion Through Stronger Sector Leadership this International Day of People with Disability

With 5.5 million Australians living with disability, Amplify Alliance reaffirms its commitment to advancing inclusion through strong, collaborative sector leadership this International Day of People with Disability.

In the lead-up to International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD), Amplify Alliance reaffirms its commitment to advancing inclusion through strong, collaborative sector leadership. With 5.5 million Australians living with disability, this year’s theme of ‘fostering disability-inclusive societies for advancing social progress’ reinforces the importance of collective action to ensure equity, dignity and opportunity for all.

As a national member-based organisation supporting Australia’s largest network of Not for Profits delivering human and social services, including 140+ disability service organisations, Amplify Alliance recognises the essential role we play with our members in advancing social progress and fostering a disability-inclusive society.

From improving living options to supporting meaningful employment and ensuring access to individualised supports, we believe disability inclusion must be shaped with people with disability, their families and the organisations that support them.

Progressing Inclusion Through Evidence and Collaboration

Inclusion is strengthened when decisions are informed by living experience, evidence and the expertise of those delivering frontline support. Throughout this year, Amplify Alliance has contributed to national sector efforts by:

  • Convening a national workshop with disability providers, sector leaders and government to examine emerging challenges and opportunities across disability services.
  • Contributing to national policy discussions through a collective submission to the Australian Government’s response to the Disability Royal Commission.
  • Supporting organisations to navigate changes to the SCHADS Award to ensure workforce stability and continuity of supports.

These activities reflect our ongoing role in supporting dialogue, sharing evidence and ensuring the perspectives of disability service organisations inform decisions that affect people with disability.

Advocating For a More Inclusive Australia

Amplify Alliance continues to encourage reforms and policy approaches that:

  • Are designed with, not for, people with disability, families and providers.
  • Recognise and support innovation already occurring across Australia.
  • Include small and medium providers in future service delivery models.
  • Focus on long-term value rather than short-term cost pressures.

We continue to work with government, our members, people with disability and communities to help ensure Australia’s disability ecosystem is ethical, sustainable and grounded in human rights.
